What it does in US skies
Nearly every big US airline has ordered the A321neo, and it is rapidly becoming one of the most common jets over the country. It flies busy domestic trunks, Hawaii flights and, in long-range form, the US East Coast to Europe.
Main US operators: American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, Frontier Airlines.
How to recognize a A321neo
- A very long single-aisle body with large neo engine nacelles.
- Sharklets on every aircraft.
- Some have the Cabin Flex door layout: a pair of overwing exits instead of a full door ahead of the wing.
- Looks like an A321ceo except for the oversized engines and sharklets.
How it looks on a flight tracker
Typically cruises at FL340 to FL390 at 430 to 540 kt. Look for AAL, DAL, UAL, ASA, JBU and FFT callsigns; JetBlue's long-range jets appear heading out over the Atlantic.
History
The A321neo entered service with Virgin America in 2017. The extra-long-range A321XLR followed in 2024, with US carriers including American and United on its order book.
